I had first heard of the Ancient Lakes, WA from the Washington Trails Association page a year or so ago and knew it was a hike listed relatively close to the Tri-Cities. Finally had enough free time to go check it out this past weekend. After a couple hours on the road I had arrived there around 10 in the morning. The trip out was pretty much what was already described on the WTA article with the gravel road in good condition.
Easy going trail located in heart of Eastern Washington
What I didn’t expect was the large amount of people also wanting to trek through the area, so many that even parking anywhere close to the trailhead was a challenge. Made it difficult getting decent pics out of the trip, a lot of the decent spots to get a overview of the nearest lake and the little waterfall was also the main attraction locations for everyone else to gather. If I was to ever head back out to this location I would want to make sure to arrive early in the morning and during the weekdays in hopes getting in during non-peak times.
Overall while it was a couple hour long drive to get out there for what became a crowded trail with little available parking, it was a good practice run.
